India and Georgia are expected to be added to the list of ‘safe’ countries at section 80AA of the Nationality, Immigration and Asylum Act 2002 (Free Movement, Nov 9th 2023).
This needs to be voted through by both Houses of Parliament and is expected to happen next year.
With the number of Georgians and Indian nationals claiming asylum seeming to grow over recent years, this presumably has been deemed too high by the Home Office, thus prompting this change.
